In September, I travelled to Japan for a 2-week field trip with Mie Femø Nielsen and Rikke Nielsen from Copenhagen University. A range of internationally active companies had been kind enough to allow us to visit with them, and talk with various professionals about how they go about conducting their work within international workplace settings. A number of companies also allowed us to record team and departmental meetings, and online meetings with clients.
The field work was carried out primarily in Tokyo, with an additional visit to Hiroshima.
This research allows us to describe best practices in international business communication, as well as explore what resources are needed to negotiate the many challenges of working within a global marketplace, with transnationally mobile colleagues, and with company representatives and clients in different parts of the world.
The research trip was funded by the LINGCORP project.
